Cycle Touring Day 8

Route: Phoenix Park - Blanchardstown - Ratoath - Tyrrelstown - Hill of Tara - Dunboyne

After my first rest day yesterday, I was back on the bike again today but this time to enjoy a leisure cycle with the Dublin Social Cycling Group organised by my good cycling chum @Esmirrena.

We met at the Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park at 09:30 and set off for the Hill of Tara. I have cycled this route to the Hill of Tara several times but as is often the case when you live in a place, you never actually visit it. Each of the previous four times I had been there, I only ever got as far as the tea shop, stopping for well-earned scones and a hot drink. As I was "on tour", today I finally took a few pictures of the place!

After our stop we headed off on a scenic route home, the highlight of which was cycling along Strawberry Beds along the banks of the River Liffey near Chapelizod. There is a wonderful pub there called The Angler's Rest.

The Lia Fáil (Stone of Destiny) on the Hill of Tara.

Views across a very flat Ireland.

A ring-fort known as Ráith Laoghaire (Laoghaire's Fort).

Statue of Naomh Padraig.

This was waiting for me on the bed when I got home, courtesy of my hosts. Thank you kids!
