After another week of pondering just which trailer to buy (initially I had convinced myself I needed a Burley Nomad), today I finally ordered the BOB Yak! I leave Dublin tomorrow, so hopefully it will arrive at mum's by the time I get there on Wednesday. Fingers crossed there are no delays as I won't have many days left before I head to France for May 1st.
Today was my final day in Dublin and I still had a couple of friends to meet. Firstly, I cycled over to the velodrome in Eamon Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road to watch my friend train for a while and to catch up with a few of the guys in the Sundrive Track Team. As luck would have it, Eoin Mullen was back at training for the first time in ages, so I chatted to him about life as a professional track cyclist in the making. After that I cycled over to visit a few ex-housemates and stayed with them for a couple of hours catching up on life.
After lunch at a favourite Dublin eatery, Govinda's, I cycled over to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (MIMA) located at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham right next to Kilmainham Gaol (where several films have been shot including The Italian Job). Both are well worth a visit sometime if you are every in the vicinity! I was meeting a friend for coffee at MIMA and after a most enjoyable couple of hours we headed into Temple Bar for a few drinks with other friends of hers.
Throughout the day I had my bike with me of course and this evening I did something I would never have done when I lived in Dublin - I left it locked up outside a pub for several hours. I even went to a different pub for an hour or so, quite some distance away and left the bike at the original location. I had never left my bike locked up in Dublin (as I never have done in any city to be honest) when I lived there as I always feared for its security. Tonight though I figured that the new adventure I was embarking upon, required a new attitude so I chanced my arm. Thankfully my trust paid off and when I returned it the bike at round 22:30 with everything still intact. What a wonderful parting memory of a fantastic city! Sláinte!
